In an attempt to stop the constant flooding that happens in the Gowanus area the city has installed four bioswales st Dean Street. 10 more are under construction all around Brooklyn. These bioswales will be 20 feet by 5 feet with a 5 to 10 foot pit. They are each meant to handle 1870 gallons of stormwater per storm. These bioswales are apart of the $2.4 billion 20 year NYC Green Infrastructure Plan proposal. Read part of the plan here: www.NYC.gov. Hopefully it will stop flooding like this:
