Jackson Heights Drop

Huge news for those of us who keep a compost pail at home and have to haul it uphill to either Prospect Park on Saturday or Carroll Park on Sunday: Gowanus is getting its very own compost dropoff location, and it’s going to be open during the week!

Brownstoner reports that The Gowanus Canal Conservancy and Build It Green!NYC have teamed up on the new compost drop-off location at Build It Green!NYC’s Reuse Center in Gowanus (69 9th St, between Smith St. and Second Ave.). The facility will be open on Thursdays and Fridays from 10am to 6pm starting on June 6th.

This is a huge relief; we’ve currently got two giant buckets full of food scraps in our freezer that have been building up for the past several weeks since we’ve been out of town every weekend. Thursday and Friday drop-offs are so much more convenient.

New compost drop-off sites are being added in Hunters Point, Forest Hills and Greenpoint as well. More info here.
