School of Rock Brooklyn Gowanus

No excuses for the lack of posts here lately, we’ve just been crazy busy. Dammit… that was an excuse. But Gowanus never stops, and thankfully the most excellent South Brooklyn blog Pardon Me For Asking has some local updates for ya:

  • One lane of the 3rd Street bridge will be closed on two Saturdays (now just one remaining), February 15th and 22nd. The NYC DOT will be removing parts of the bridge damaged during Hurricane Sandy for repair off-site. Hopefully this means they’ll soon be doing the same for the Union and Carroll Street bridges which haven’t been able to open to let marine traffic through since Sandy.
  • The future of the planned Rock and Roll Playhouse on Bond Street is still uncertain, but the School Of Rock – an organization that operates over 100 music schools for children throughout the United States, Canada, and Latin America — will be opening a Gowanus outpost on Douglass Street in March, their first in Brooklyn. More info here.
  • The Sunoco gas station on Hamilton Ave. near Huntington Street has now closed. There are still a couple of gas stations left on that strip, but with the area becoming ever more gentrified one has to wonder how long they’ll last. Just look at Chelsea as an example.
