It’s one of the greatest substances on the planet; both icky and sexy to the touch.
It’s J-E-L-L-O, Jell-o!
And Gowanus Studio Space wants you to use this cool substance in a very different kind of sculpting contest; The Jell-o Mold Competition!
Call for submission:
Saturday, June 25, 2011 from 6-10pm
Register by June 15, 2011 to compete
The Jell-O Mold Competition has taken Jell-O out of the cafeteria, but the time has come to take it out of the kitchen altogether and into the world at large!
The 2011 competition is asking designers to explore the everyday uses of this wobbly, delicious, shape shifting medium. Competitors will battle it out for mold supremacy in the following categories:
- Structural/sculptural ingenuity
- Edibility/culinary appeal
- Best use and showcase of Jell-O
A crack panel of respected judges will announce the winners at 8pm on the day of the event. The judging and awards ceremony will be held at the Gowanus Studio Space in Brooklyn.
Designers will compete for a grand prize of $400 in cash, a year membership to the Cooper-Hewitt, National Design Museum, gifts from Papabubble, Holstee, and more!
The event is open to the public so even if you don’t compete you can come check out the action and vote for your favorite mold for People’s Choice! Kelso beer and Jell-O shots will be served. $10 to attend, students 16 and under free.
Designers must register by Wednesday June 15, 2011 to participate in the competition: $15 registration fee, $10 for students. Space is limited, so register early!
Designers must make their own molds for the contest–either by creating a new mold or recontexualizing pre-existing forms–and we welcome submission of process images of mold construction.
