The crack between two hipster neighborhoods, home to the now superfunded Canal, the flash point for the new 'Buy Local' and textile revolutions, & filled with brilliant bohemians. . . this is Gowanus & it’ll awesome your face off.

The Home of the Brooklyn Dodgers in Gowanus

GowanusCanal.Posterous.com posts vintage images of Washington Park baseball field, which was the old home of the Brooklyn Superbas, better known as the Brooklyn “Trolley” Dodgers. The team (or a version of the team) used this stadium from 1898 to 1912. See the other photos here.

Part of an old storage area that survived a the second fire that destroyed the ballpark still stands on 3rd Ave. The wall has been recently modified by Con Ed, but still is recognizable as something from an old stadium. Read more about the park here.
